Arconic investors started out the day down in the dumps. Now they should feel elated.

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday afternoon that Arconic (ticker: ARNC) the aluminum products giant, is in talks to be acquired by private-equity firm Apollo Global Management (APO).
