Few companies are better placed to give an insight into the global economy than A.P. Moller-Maersk The world’s second-largest container shipping group is one of the first to know when consumers change their habits, and its chief executive reckons the U.S. is in good shape, but China might disappoint those hoping it will power the global economy this year. 

“The specter of a recession in the U.S., as well as in Europe, is receding,” Maersk (ticker: MAERSK-A.Denmark) CEO Vincent Clerc told Barron’s on Tuesday.
